Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules
- Innovation Village Apartments North and South use FULL-SIZE beds, not Twin XL. FAU publishes it in black and white by building code. Every generic checklist says Twin XL; for IVA that advice is simply wrong.
- Curtains are banned outright — “window coverings of any type (except those issued by the Department of Housing and Residential Education) are prohibited.” Do not buy blackout curtains, tension rods or window film.
- Four buildings already supply the fridge — Atlantic Park Towers (7.4 cubic feet), Talon Hall (a full-size fridge and microwave), and Innovation Village and University Village (full kitchen refrigerator-freezers). A mini-fridge there is wasted money.
- Toasters are banned everywhere except University Village and Innovation Village — yet toaster ovens, crock pots and Foreman grills are explicitly allowed. That is the inverse of most schools.
- The fridge cap is 4.2 cubic feet at only 400 watts, and the wattage ceiling rules out some compact fridges that meet the size limit. Microwaves cap at 1.5 cubic feet and 1,100 watts, one per suite — so roommates must coordinate.
- LED strip lighting tape is banned by name, and Parliament Hall beds come permanently lofted with the desk underneath, making loft kits and risers useless there.
Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check your building first.
| Hall | Style | Rate |
|---|---|---|
| Glades Park Towers / Heritage Park Towers Cheapest bed on campus; first-year only, and the meal plan is mandatory here. | Traditional | $3,540/sem shared double |
| Parliament Hall Beds come permanently lofted with the desk and dresser underneath — bring no risers or loft kit. | Suite | $3,846/sem shared double suite |
| University Village Apartments Apartment pricing at traditional-hall cost, with a full-size fridge and no required meal plan. | Apartment | $3,846/sem shared studio double |
| Atlantic Park Towers A 7.4 cubic foot refrigerator is already provided in the suite — buy no mini-fridge. | Suite | $4,164/sem shared double suite |
| Talon Hall Brand new for Fall 2026 and aimed at second-years; in-unit full-size fridge, microwave and sink, and no meal plan required. | Suite/apartment | $5,500/sem 3-bedroom single |
| Innovation Village Apartments North Most expensive option, with a full kitchen and in-suite laundry — and a FULL-SIZE bed. | Apartment | $6,382/sem 2-bedroom single |
Every FAU figure is per student, per semester — double it for an academic year. Rates are not final: “prices are subject to change pending FAU Board of Trustees approval.” A meal plan is mandatory but not included, and only in the traditional halls — Talon Hall, Innovation Village and University Village residents are exempt, which can make a nominally pricier apartment cheaper all-in. Rates compiled from the university’s published housing rates, August 2026. Always confirm on the official rates page.
Who has to live on campus
Not required at Boca Raton — “Currently there is no live on requirement for students attending the Boca Raton Campus.” The Wilkes Honors College on the Jupiter campus operates under a different requirement and is excluded from that statement.
What the room already includes
A bed, desk, desk chair and dresser in every room; Indian River Towers, University Village and Innovation Village add common-area furnishings. High-speed internet is included in the housing rate, wired and wireless, plus basic cable TV in each suite. Laundry is free in every building, and Innovation Village residents have machines inside their own suites. University Village and Innovation Village have full kitchens with a full-size refrigerator-freezer, and the new Talon Hall provides an in-unit full-size fridge with top freezer, a separate microwave and a kitchen sink.
Fridge & microwave rules
It depends entirely on the building, and four already supply one: Innovation Village and University Village (full-size kitchen refrigerators), Atlantic Park Towers and Residence Hall 3 (7.4 cubic foot top-mount fridges), and Talon Hall (full-size fridge and microwave). Everywhere else it is bring-your-own — there is no rental program. Caps: refrigerators 4.2 cubic feet or smaller at a maximum 400 watts, and microwaves 1.5 cubic feet or smaller at a maximum 1,100 watts, one per suite.
What you cannot bring
Fireworks, hot plates, incense, candles (unless the wicks are clipped to the wax) and open flames, plus any heating unit with an open flame or heating element. LED Strip Lighting Tape by name, non-LED lights generally, and halogen lamps. Wireless access points, routers and hubs. Weapons of any type, amplified equipment such as sub-woofers, alcohol, tobacco and vapes. The appliance rule is a heating-element test: hot plates, deep fryers, toasters and grills are banned, while toaster ovens, microwaves, crock pots, blenders, small electric grills and coffee makers without exposed elements are permitted — and toasters are allowed only in University Village and Innovation Village. No nails, tacks or wall-damaging adhesives, no painting or wallpapering, nothing attached to walls or ceilings, and carpet may not be affixed to the floor. Nothing may be displayed in windows, and window coverings of any type are prohibited. Pets: fish in a tank no larger than 10 gallons.
