On-campus housing: 2026-27 rates & what's included

Room dimensions are only half the story — here is what FIU actually charges to live on campus, what shows up in the room before you unpack, and the appliance rules that decide what you can bring.

Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules

  • Two halls are not Twin XL. Tamiami Hall and University Towers use FULL mattresses (54×80). Panther, Lakeview, Everglades and Parkview are Twin XL (36×80).
  • Do not buy a mini-fridge. A refrigerator is already provided — in-suite in Panther and Lakeview, and a full kitchen in Everglades, Tamiami, University Towers and Parkview.
  • Microwaves are not supplied in the suite halls, so that is the one appliance worth bringing. All cooking appliances must be used in the kitchen area only.

Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check your building first.

Bed size: Twin XL (36×80, adjustable-height frames) in Panther, Lakeview, Everglades and Parkview — but Tamiami Hall and University Towers use FULL mattresses (54×80).

Who has to live on campusNo requirement — FIU states first-year students are not required to live on campus, though first-years get priority in room assignment. Note: FIU had not published 2026-27 rates as of August 2026, so the figures above are the latest posted (Fall 2025/Spring 2026) and are likely to rise.
What's already in the roomMattress on an adjustable-height frame, computer desk and chair, two small dressers and a closet (Towers adds a nightstand and bookshelf). Fridge & microwave rulesA refrigerator is PROVIDED in every hall — in-suite in Panther and Lakeview, full kitchen elsewhere.
