Before you buy anything: what is actually true at University of Notre Dame

A generic college checklist will cost you money here. These are University of Notre Dame’s own published room measurements and rules — check them before you order.

Room size and rugs

Rooms run from 416 sq ft (Grojean Hall) up to 728 sq ft (Coyle Hall). At the small end a 8×10 rug is the largest that leaves walking room — measure before ordering anything bigger.

Bed and bedding

XL Twin (36" x 80"), uniform, and loftable, bunkable or separable with University hardware — with two exceptions. Students over 6'7" may request an XXL Twin, which requires non-standard sheets and cannot be lofted. And St. Edward’s Hall is the one hall not on the Modular Furniture System, so verify Measure before buying bedding — this campus is not a standard 38×80.

Fridge and microwave

Bring a fridge, but do not buy a microwave at all. Refrigerators must not exceed 5.0 cubic feet. “Microwave” sits on the prohibited list, banned alongside other high-wattage appliances “except those provided by the University” — so students use the University microwave in the hall kitchen. Already in your room

Do not pack duplicates of these: An XL twin bed frame and 80-inch mattress, a desk and chair, and a closet or wardrobe — some halls have built-in closets instead of modular wardrobes.
