Before you buy anything: what is actually true at St. Cloud State University

A generic college checklist will cost you money here. These are St. Cloud State University’s own published room measurements and rules — check them before you order.

Room size and rugs

Rooms run from 93 sq ft (Stateview Apartments in the Department of Residential Life) up to 190 sq ft (Mitchell Hall in the Department of Residential Life). At the small end a 4×6 rug is the largest that leaves walking room — measure before ordering anything bigger.

Bed and bedding

Extra-long twin in Case-Hill, Lawrence, Mitchell and Shoemaker β€” the packing list says to bring two sets of twin XL bedding. Exception: Stateview Apartments are furnished with full size beds. Stateview is sophomore-and-up only, so this catches returning students rather than freshmen.

Fridge and microwave

Bring your own. One refrigerator per room, not exceeding 4.3 cubic feet β€” anything larger, plus deep freezers, is banned outright. Microwaves are permitted in rooms with no published wattage cap, and no rental program is advertised. Skip both in Mitchell Hall, where every floor already has a kitchen Anything over 4.3 cu ft will be sent home.

Already in your room

Do not pack duplicates of these: A bed with extra-long twin mattress, desk and chair, a closet with built-in storage, curtains or a shade already on the windows, a mirror and a bulletin board. Wi-Fi and ethernet are in every room and laundry is free β€” β€œthere is not a cost for laundry.” Mitchell Hall has a kitche

Leave these at home

3D printers, air fryers, alcohol, animals (a 10-gallon fish tank is fine), candles and incense, cannabis, tobacco and vaping products, deep freezers, extension cords, firearms and fireworks, refrigerators over 4.3 cubic feet, hot plates, hoverboards, humidifiers, open-flame devic
