How many of you can legally share a house? Denton’s code still prints a four-unrelated limit, but a 2025 Texas law bars the city from enforcing it. See the rule, quoted from the city code, for 34 college towns →

The University of North Texas does not publish room dimensions or square footage for its residence halls, so this page covers what UNT does publish: room types, bed sizes and 2026–27 rates for all 15 halls in Denton. Over 70% of rooms on campus are double occupancy, and every room type UNT lists comes with a Twin XL bed.

Kerr Hall

Kerr is UNT’s largest residence hall, with over 900 residents, and it predominantly houses first-year students. Rooms are mostly double occupancy with a few triples. The hall sits on Maple Street across from the Eagle Landing dining hall, close to the Union and Willis Library, with elevators in both towers, study rooms, TV lounges, an art studio and a courtyard with BBQ grills.

Maple Hall

Maple is one of UNT’s mostly first-year residence halls, on the corner of Maple Street and Avenue C. Rooms are primarily double occupancy with some triples. Mean Greens Café, the only fully vegan dining option on campus, is adjacent to the rear of the hall, and amenities include a TV lounge and kitchenette, laundry, and a courtyard with BBQ grills and a fire pit.

Room types across campus

UNT describes four main configurations. Double occupancy is the most common room type — over 70% of rooms — available with community or suite bathrooms; each resident gets a Twin XL bed, desk, desk chair, dresser (built-in or freestanding) and a closet. Triple occupancy rooms are offered in Clark, Kerr, Maple, Santa Fe Square and West. Single occupancy rooms, mostly upperclassmen, are in Legends, Traditions and Victory, with a bathroom shared between two rooms. Private singles — the rarest type, typically upperclassmen only — are in Honors, Legends and Mozart Square. Mozart Square alone offers efficiency doubles with a shared living area where small kitchen appliances such as toasters and toaster ovens are allowed.

Rates are published by UNT Housing for the full academic year (fall plus spring); spring-only is half. Meal plans are billed separately at UNT, so these figures are room only — which makes them directly comparable to an apartment rent, unlike the bundled rates many schools publish.

Bed size: Twin XL in every room type UNT lists — the standard 80 in long college mattress. Regular Twin sheets will not fit.
