Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules
- Rushing Hall has FULL size beds — Troy’s newest and most expensive hall, and the one families paying top dollar are most likely to choose. Twin XL sheets are simply wrong there.
- Clements, Cowart and Pace have genuinely mixed bed sizes inside the same building — each is “a mix of regular twin size and XL twin size.” There is no way to know in advance. Buy sheets after move-in, not before.
- Air fryers, Instant Pots and toasters are all banned by name — three of the most common back-to-school gifts. Yet Troy’s own guide lists an approved 600–700 watt toaster oven. Verify with Housing before buying either.
- 3M Command Strips are banned outright, along with nails, screws, tape, stickers and contact paper. Push pins are the only approved way to hang anything.
- Cable is not provided and personal wireless routers are banned — bring a smart TV, not a cable-ready set, and leave the router and travel hotspot at home.
- The mini-fridge cap is 2.4 cubic feet, which excludes most mainstream “dorm fridges.” Pace Hall needs none at all — it has a stove and refrigerator in the room.
Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check your building first.

Rates are per person per semester. A mandatory meal plan is billed on top for all residents except those in Pace Hall, the Honors Cottage and Greek housing. Who has to live on campus
Based on age, not class year. New students who have not reached 19 by the last date of regular fall registration must live on campus unless they commute from a parent’s home within a one-hour drive. Living with a legal guardian, grandparent or sibling also qualifies with parental approval documentation.
What the room already includes
Beds, desks and chests of drawers; Cowart adds wardrobe closet space. Rooms are carpeted and air conditioned with movable furniture. Rushing Hall adds a small bookcase and a wall-mounted TV. Pace Hall rooms include a stove and refrigerator, Trojan Village units have a kitchenette with a shared fridge and microwave plus a common living room, and the Honors Cottage has a shared kitchen. University Apartments are unfurnished and exclude utilities. Cable is not provided — Troy tells students to bring smart TVs and stream.
Fridge & microwave rules
Bring your own, within an unusually tight window: 1.7 to 2.4 cubic feet for the fridge and 600 to 800 watts for the microwave. The 2.4 cubic foot ceiling rules out most back-to-school “dorm fridges.” Skip it entirely in Pace Hall, Trojan Village and the Honors Cottage.
What you cannot bring
No air fryers. No Instant Pots. No toasters. No hot plates or any cooking equipment with an open heating element. No extension cords. No candles or incense, no halogen lamps. No 3M Command Strips, no adhesives, nails, screws, stickers, duct tape, wallpaper, carpet tape or contact paper, and no painting. No personal wireless routers. No personal washers, dryers or door locks. Pets: small goldfish only. A spring tension rod for a curtain is on the bring list — Rushing’s closets have no doors.
