Before you buy anything: what is actually true at Florida Gulf Coast University

A generic college checklist will cost you money here. These are Florida Gulf Coast University’s own published room measurements and rules — check them before you order.

Room size and rugs

Rooms run from 57 sq ft (West Lake Village) up to 110 sq ft (South Village). At the small end a 4×6 rug is the largest that leaves walking room — measure before ordering anything bigger.

Bed and bedding

Twin XL (39"x80") in South Village — but North Lake Village (Oak, Mangrove, Cypress, Falcon, Egret, Sandpiper, Pelican) and all of West Lake Village use full-size beds. Check your building before buying sheets.

Fridge and microwave

Bring your own mini-fridge for South Village — not provided, but allowed. Fridges are capped at 5 cubic feet and microwaves at 1,000 watts. North Lake and West Lake Village already include a full-size kitchen fridge, so skip the mini-fridge entirely there. Anything over 5 cu ft will be sent home.

Already in your room

Do not pack duplicates of these: Bed with mattress, desk, desk chair, dresser or wardrobe, closet, window blinds and a trash can, plus ResNet Wi-Fi, cable and all utilities. Leave these at home

Candles, incense, halogen lamps, string lights, waterbeds, weapons, fireworks, drugs, tobacco and vaping, personal wireless routers, and smart speakers such as Alexa or Google Home. Nothing that damages walls. Pets are limited to fish in tanks of 10 gallons or less.
