Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules
- Bed size is not uniform. South Village is Twin XL, but North Lake Village uses FULL-size beds in Oak, Mangrove, Cypress, Falcon, Egret, Sandpiper and Pelican, and West Lake Village is full-size in every unit. FGCU’s own move-in guide tells those residents to buy full sheets.
- North Lake Village and West Lake Village apartments already include a full-size kitchen fridge — a mini-fridge is wasted money there.
- Smart speakers (Alexa, Google Home) are banned, along with string lights and personal wireless routers.
- If you do need a fridge for South Village: max 5 cubic feet, microwave max 1,000 watts.

Who has to live on campus
No requirement. FGCU states students are not required to live on campus, and the housing application is separate from admission — but demand is high, so apply early.
What the room already includes
Bed with mattress, desk, desk chair, dresser or wardrobe, closet, window blinds and a trash can, plus ResNet Wi-Fi, cable and all utilities. North Lake and West Lake Village are furnished apartments that add a living room and a full kitchen with a full-size fridge and stove — residents bring their own dishes, cookware and utensils. South Village relies on community kitchens except in suites with kitchenettes.
Fridge & microwave rules
Bring your own mini-fridge for South Village — not provided, but allowed. Fridges are capped at 5 cubic feet and microwaves at 1,000 watts. North Lake and West Lake Village already include a full-size kitchen fridge, so skip the mini-fridge entirely there.
What you cannot bring
Candles, incense, halogen lamps, string lights, waterbeds, weapons, fireworks, drugs, tobacco and vaping, personal wireless routers, and smart speakers such as Alexa or Google Home. Nothing that damages walls. Pets are limited to fish in tanks of 10 gallons or less.
