What on-campus housing costs at Ole Miss

Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules

  • A mini-fridge AND a microwave are already in the room in eight buildings — all six contemporary halls (Pittman, Minor, Burns, Residence Hall 1, 2 and 3) and both residential colleges (RC South, Luckyday). Buying one for those is wasted money.
  • Bed size is confirmed Twin XL only for the residence halls. Ole Miss hosts its Room and Furniture Sizing Guide behind a login, and bed sizes in Northgate, Campus Walk and the masterlease properties are not published — those are apartment products. Measure before buying.
  • Crosby Hall has built-in furniture while every other hall has movable furniture — no rearranging, no lofting, no risers, and dimensions you cannot design around.
  • Rates are per semester and “pending IHL approval” — not final and not annual. Families comparing the $3,430 double to another school’s yearly number will be off by half.
  • Ole Miss does not publish its prohibited-items list publicly — the Resident Handbook and M Book sit behind a login. Given the $500 fire alarm activation fee, cooking appliances are clearly taken seriously. Email housing@olemiss.edu or call 662-915-7328 before buying any appliance.

Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check your building first.

Bed size: Twin XL in the residence halls — Ole Miss’s orientation materials refer to “two twin XL beds.” ⚠ The definitive Room and Furniture Sizing Guide is behind a login, and bed size in Northgate, Campus Walk and the masterlease properties (The Suites Oxford, The Quarters, The Rev, Taylor Bend) is not published — those are apartment products and may not be Twin XL. Measure first.

All rates are per semester and “pending IHL approval” — neither final nor annual. Meal plans are not addressed on the rates page and are not bundled. Additional mandatory charges include a $100 non-refundable application fee and a $500 fire alarm activation fee. The masterlease properties are university-administered but priced like luxury off-campus apartments, from $5,284 to $9,390 per semester. Rates compiled from the university’s published housing rates, August 2026. Always confirm on the official rates page.

Who has to live on campus

All new incoming first-year students with fewer than 30 post-high-school credit hours must apply for housing or hold an approved appeal or exemption, for two consecutive semesters. Exemptions cover students aged 20 or older before the academic year, those living with a parent or guardian within 60 miles and commuting, students who graduated high school at least a year prior and already lived in college housing for two semesters, married students, and students with children. Anyone without an approved exemption is administratively charged for housing.

What the room already includes

Every double has two full sets of furniture — a bed, desk and dresser per student. The contemporary halls and both residential colleges list a mini-fridge and microwave as standard in-room amenities, along with an in-room bathroom and in-room thermostat. Traditional halls have community bathrooms on each floor or wing, movable furniture, in-room thermostats, community kitchenettes and on-site laundry. Campus Walk offers private bedrooms, private in-room bathrooms, full kitchens and in-unit laundry, and Northgate has a kitchen and student lounges. What the rate covers in utilities, internet and laundry is not published publicly.

Fridge & microwave rules

A mini-fridge and a microwave are already in the room in all six contemporary halls (Pittman, Minor, Burns, Residence Hall 1, 2 and 3) and both residential colleges (RC South and Luckyday) — eight buildings where buying one is wasted money. Campus Walk has full kitchens. For the traditional halls (Deaton, Hefley, Brown, Stewart, Crosby, Martin and Stockard) no fridge or microwave is listed, so plan to bring one — but Ole Miss does not publish its cubic-foot or wattage caps publicly, so confirm the limits with Housing before buying.

What you cannot bring

Ole Miss does not publish its prohibited-items list on any public page. The list lives inside the Resident Handbook, the M Book and the housing contract, all of which sit behind a login. What is publicly confirmed: all University policies are enforced inside housing, there are dedicated animal, fire safety and fire equipment policies, and there is a $500 fire alarm activation fee — a strong signal that cooking appliances and open flames are treated seriously. Request the Resident Handbook from housing@olemiss.edu or call 662-915-7328 before buying any appliance, rather than relying on a generic dorm checklist.
