Before you buy anything: what is actually true at North Carolina State University

A generic college checklist will cost you money here. These are North Carolina State University’s own published room measurements and rules — check them before you order.

Room size and rugs

Rooms run from 102 sq ft (Wolf Ridge Apartments) up to 210 sq ft (University Towers). At the small end a 4×6 rug is the largest that leaves walking room — measure before ordering anything bigger.

Bed and bedding

Three sizes. Residence halls are extra-long twin but stated as 36" x 80" β€” note the 36" width, not the usual 38". All on-campus apartments use full mattresses: Wolf Village at 53" x 75" and Wolf Ridge at 80" length (full XL). University Towers floor-8 Design Singles are full 54" x 80", and rooms X02 Measure before buying bedding — this campus is not a standard 38×80.

Fridge and microwave

Provided β€” and personal ones are banned. Every hall room includes a university-supplied one-plug microwave and refrigerator combo at no extra charge. There is no rental to sign up for and no size cap to shop against, because you are not supposed to bring one: the packing list names β€œPersonal mini-fr Do not buy a fridge for this campus.

Already in your room

Do not pack duplicates of these: Per student: a bed frame and mattress, desk, study table, dresser, and a wardrobe or closet β€” plus a micro-fridge unit.
