Before you buy anything: what is actually true at University at Buffalo

A generic college checklist will cost you money here. These are University at Buffalo’s own published room measurements and rules — check them before you order.

Room size and rugs

Rooms run from 58 sq ft (Ellicott Complex) up to 188 sq ft (Governors Complex). At the small end a 4×6 rug is the largest that leaves walking room — measure before ordering anything bigger.

Bed and bedding

Not uniform. Residence halls use an extra-long twin that UB publishes as 80" x 35.5" โ€” narrower than the 38" Twin XL standard. All five apartment complexes use FULL beds: Creekside Village, Flickinger Court, Flint Village, Hadley Village and South Lake Village. Measure before buying bedding — this campus is not a standard 38×80.

Fridge and microwave

Residence halls are bring-your-own fridge, capped at no larger than 4.5 cubic feet. Microwaves are banned outright in the residence halls โ€” the only legal route is a MicroFridge combination unit, which UB permits as an alternative. No microwave wattage cap is published. In all five apartment complex Do not buy a fridge for this campus.

Already in your room

Do not pack duplicates of these: A desk, chair, dresser, closet or wardrobe and bed per resident. Rates are all-inclusive โ€” โ€œyour rates include electricity, internet, laundry and much more,โ€ so laundry is free, no card or coins. Leave these at home

The residence-hall cooking ban names each item individually: air fryer, crock pot, hot plate, grilling machine, rice cooker, sandwich maker, slow cooker, toaster and microwave oven. Extension cords are banned in both the halls and the apartments โ€” surge protectors only. Bed riser
