Texas Tech University Off-Campus Housing Guide (2026)

Texas Tech requires first-year students to live on campus (with commuter exemptions), so most Red Raiders move off campus sophomore year.

Where students live

Furnished per-bedroom communities cluster in Overton Park just east of campus and in cottage-style developments north of campus, with cheap conventional apartments citywide and popular houses in Tech Terrace.

Lubbock has one of the deepest purpose-built student-housing markets anywhere — American Campus Communities alone runs four properties at the campus edge. TTU maintains an official off-campus property directory.

What you'll need

Most rentals here come furnished — use the checklist's furnished filter and focus on bedding, kitchen, and bath. Tech Terrace houses are the unfurnished exception.
