What on-campus housing costs at UT Arlington
Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules
- The UTA apartments use FULL-size beds, not Twin XL. The Heights on Pecan states plainly that “all bedrooms are furnished with one full sized bed”. A standard Twin XL bedding set bought for a dorm will not fit.
- And you may not bring your own mattress or bed frame into a furnished apartment. Even a medically necessary alternative needs a formal accommodation through the Student Access and Resource Center — not just a request.
- UTA publishes no mattress measurements for any hall. Arlington Hall is confirmed as Twin XL with a frame adjustable between one foot and 3′6″, and that is the extent of it.
- Your fridge must plug straight into the wall — no power strip — and a second offence is a $50 fine. The cap is 4.3 cubic feet.
- Plug-in LED string lights are banned (battery-powered UL-listed ones are fine), along with extension cords, air fryers, toasters, Instant Pots, rice cookers, halogen lamps and — unusually — 3D printers.
- There is no live-on requirement. UTA says so outright: “UT Arlington does not have a live on housing requirement for students.” First-year students get priority for a room, not an obligation to take one.
- Centennial Court is marketed as on-campus but is privately run by Campus Living Villages, on a different contract from the halls. Read which one you are signing.

Fridge & microwave rules
In the halls you bring your own, up to 4.3 cubic feet, and it must plug directly into a wall outlet — never a power strip. First offence is a warning, second is a $50 fine. Doubles in Arlington, KC, Vandergriff and West get one per person; suites get one for the common area plus one per bedroom, and one microwave per room on the same wall-plug rule. The apartments come with a full-size refrigerator and a self-cleaning stove; whether a microwave is included is not stated anywhere, so ask the leasing office.
What you cannot bring
Extension cords. Plug-in LED string lights — only battery-powered UL-listed ones are allowed. Air fryers, toasters, Instant Pots and rice cookers in the halls; the apartment handbook does not address them, so confirm before you buy. Halogen lamps. 3D printers. Candles, incense and wax warmers. Space heaters. Pets other than service animals. Tapestries and cloth hangings are capped at 20% of wall space in the apartments. Lofting is only permitted using pegs approved by the hall office, and aftermarket bed risers are not part of that programme.
Who has to live on campus
None at all, and UTA states it explicitly rather than leaving it to inference. It is a majority-commuter campus. First-time-in-college students get priority in the housing queue through the FTIC programme, which is a very different thing from a mandate — nobody has to live on campus, so there are no exemptions or penalties to navigate.
