University of Texas at Arlington Off-Campus Housing Guide (2026)

A majority-commuter campus with no live-on requirement, which makes the surrounding blocks a genuine market rather than an afterthought — and the free driverless shuttle covers most of it.

Where students live

The walkable options cluster tight around campus. UTA Boulevard holds Midtown Arlington and Campus Edge, both directly across the road. Center Street and the downtown Arlington blocks carry LIV+ and 101 Center, five minutes on foot. South Mesquite and Abram Street hold Buffalo at Arlington and The Arlie. Further south down Cooper Street you find ordinary market apartments like Lenox Cooper — cheaper per square foot, but three to four miles out and not walkable.

Two things make comparing prices here harder than it looks. Several of the big student buildings publish no rates at all on their own sites — The Arlie and Campus Edge both make you ring — and LIV+ quotes a number without saying whether it is per bed or per apartment. Centennial Court muddies it further by sitting on the UTA footprint and appearing in university marketing while actually being run by a private operator on its own lease.

Getting to campus without a car

Unusually good for a commuter school, and free. MavMover runs five shuttle routes that deliberately serve the apartment communities — Meadow Run, Timber Brook, The Arlie, Heights on Pecan, LIV+ and Centennial Court all have stops. On top of that, Arlington has no city bus system at all; instead UTA students get free unlimited rides on RAPID, a fleet of autonomous vehicles booked through the Via app, covering 23 stops across campus, downtown and the entertainment district. It is genuinely driverless, and it is genuinely free.

How it compares to a dorm

A double suite in Arlington or KC Hall is $6,539 for the year plus a mandatory meal plan UTA will not publish a price for. A shared two-bedroom at Arbor Oaks or Timber Brook — university-owned, on the same shuttle — is $464 a month, about $5,570 over twelve months with a kitchen. That is cheaper than the cheapest hall before the meal plan is even counted.
Different bed, different sheets. This one catches people out in both directions. The halls are Twin XL; the university apartments are Full, and you are not allowed to bring your own bed. Off campus, furnished student housing is Full and ordinary apartments fit a Queen.

What you’ll need

Most rentals here come furnished — use the checklist’s furnished filter and focus on bedding, kitchen and bath.
