Before you buy anything: what is actually true at Virginia Tech

A generic college checklist will cost you money here. These are Virginia Tech’s own published room measurements and rules — check them before you order.

Room size and rugs

Rooms run from 133 sq ft (Cochrane) up to 195 sq ft (New Hall West). At the small end a 5×7 rug is the largest that leaves walking room — measure before ordering anything bigger.

Bed and bedding

Twin XL, uniform campus-wide. Every hall page uses identical wording — “twin beds, twin XL mattresses” — and no exception halls were found. (Oak Lane, the Greek chapter houses, publishes no bed size.) Twin XL sheets work everywhere.

Fridge and microwave

A MicroFridge is provided free in every room, and personal ones are banned outright — “No additional microwaves or refrigerators are allowed.” The installed unit is a 3.1 cubic foot fridge/freezer with a 0.7 cubic foot microwave head, and the rental is included in the price of room and board. Already in your room

Do not pack duplicates of these: A twin bed with Twin XL mattress, desk, chair, dresser and clothing storage, plus an in-room sink and mirror — the sink is standard in most VT halls.
