What on-campus housing costs at UCCS

Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules

  • Small kitchen appliances are banned in Summit Village and Alpine Village — no air fryers, Instant Pots, slow cookers, toasters, toaster ovens or hot plates. They are only allowed in the Antero, Crestone and Shavano apartments.
  • Full-size refrigerators are banned. Mini-fridges are allowed but not provided, and UCCS publishes no size cap — confirm before buying something large. The Alpine Apartments already have a full kitchen fridge.
  • Do not buy curtains — personal window coverings are prohibited. Extension cords and space heaters are banned too.
  • Not all suites have overhead lighting, so a lamp is a genuine necessity here, not decor.
  • Published rates bundle a required meal plan (300-block, or 150-block in Copper), so they are not comparable to room-only rents elsewhere. Alpine Apartment rates exclude it.

Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check your building first.

Bed size: Extra-long twin (Twin XL) — frames about 38" wide by 83" long and height-adjustable. Uniform campus-wide, including Alpine Village Apartments, so Twin XL sheets work everywhere.

Who has to live on campus

First-year, first-time students with fewer than 30 college credits (excluding concurrent-enrollment and AP) must live on campus for two semesters, and those under 21 must carry a meal plan. Exemptions cover students living in El Paso County with a parent or guardian, veterans and active duty, married students, students with a dependent child, anyone enrolled in six or fewer credits, and disability-related cases.

What the room already includes

Extra-long twin bed with adjustable height, desk and chair (some with a hutch), wardrobe or armoire, a bookcase in most rooms, mini-blinds and a trash can — doubled in shared bedrooms. The rate also covers parking, rec centre access, laundry, internet and utilities. Alpine Village Apartments add furnished common areas and a full kitchen. Note that not all suites have overhead lighting, so bring a lamp.

Fridge & microwave rules

Bring your own mini-fridge — permitted but not provided in Summit or Alpine Village. Full-size refrigerators are banned. UCCS publishes no cubic-foot or wattage cap and simply tells roommates to coordinate. The Antero, Crestone and Shavano apartments include a full kitchen with a full-size fridge.

What you cannot bring

Candles and incense, extension cords, window air conditioners, wall-mounted TVs, dart boards, waterbeds, weapons including toy weapons, space heaters, fireworks, and personal window curtains or coverings. Open-coil appliances (toasters, toaster ovens, hot plates, indoor grills) and small kitchen appliances (air fryers, Instant Pots, slow cookers, induction cookers) are banned in Summit Village and Alpine Village but permitted in Antero, Crestone and Shavano. Pets are limited to fish in tanks of 10 gallons or less.
