What on-campus housing costs at Fairfield

Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules

  • A micro-fridge is supplied in every residence hall room, and personal fridges AND microwaves are explicitly banned. This inverts the single most common item on a college shopping list — buying either is wasted money.
  • Curtains are banned — “students may not hang their own curtains or window treatments.” Blinds or curtains come already installed.
  • Hard 20% wall-coverage cap on tapestries, posters and decals — a full-wall tapestry violates policy on its own.
  • Adhesive-backed LED strip lights are banned, though plain string light strands are allowed if not in doorways, on ceilings or blocking windows.
  • Four-year on-campus residency requirement with a mandatory meal plan for hall residents — an unusually long and expensive lock-in.
  • Personal routers, hotspots and even Wi-Fi printers are banned — buy a USB printer if you need one.

Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check your building first.

Bed size: Twin XL. Every hall page publishes an identical frame spec with nine height settings. Fairfield’s FAQ hedges that “almost all beds have extra-long mattresses,” but names no exception anywhere on its site — treat Twin XL as correct.
HallStyleRate
Campion Hall
First-year only, air conditioned, communal wing bathrooms; triples are 13.5' x 18'.

Regis Hall
Air conditioned, 11' x 16' doubles, with a gender-inclusive bathroom on each floor.
Traditional$12,100/sem double
Claver Hall
Sophomore-only five-person suites — a double and a triple joined by a private bathroom. Air conditioned, two kitchens in the building.
Suite$12,100/sem suite
Dolan Hall / Meditz Hall
Centrally air conditioned with a refrigerator and stove, so no micro-fridge dependency — and the meal plan is optional.
Apartment$16,550/sem double; $12,510 triple
North Townhouses / Barnyard Manor
Full kitchens, central air, and each Barnyard Manor unit has its own washer and dryer — priciest and most independent.
Townhouse$18,540/sem single; $16,550 double

Rates are per semester — double them for the year. A meal plan is mandatory for all residence hall students and billed separately at $7,690 to $8,430 per semester, which nearly doubles the housing line; it is optional only for townhouse, Barnyard Manor and Village Apartment residents. A Student Activity Fee of $1,025 and a $425 freshman orientation fee also apply. Rates compiled from the university’s published housing rates, August 2026. Always confirm on the official rates page.

Who has to live on campus

Four years. Students admitted as resident students are “required to live in the University’s student residences for all of the four, traditional undergraduate years.” The only standing exemption is commuter status from a parent, guardian or spouse’s primary home within about 35 miles. Seniors may enter an off-campus lottery in October of junior year, approved at the University’s sole discretion.

What the room already includes

A Twin XL bed and mattress, desk, desk chair, wardrobe or closet, three-drawer dresser and campus Wi-Fi — plus a micro-fridge and window coverings already installed. Laundry runs on an allowance of roughly two wash and dry cycles per week, with extras purchasable via StagBucks. Campion, Regis and Claver are air conditioned; Loyola has an air-conditioned lounge only. Meditz, Dolan, 47 Mahan, the North Townhouses and Barnyard Manor have full kitchens with a refrigerator and stove and central air, and each Barnyard Manor unit has its own washer and dryer.

Fridge & microwave rules

Provided — and personal units are banned. The University supplies a combination microwave and refrigerator, and “no other refrigerators or microwaves are permitted without permission.” There is no size or wattage cap to shop against because you should buy neither. The apartments and townhouses have full kitchens.

What you cannot bring

Hot plates, toasters and toaster ovens, electric frying pans, coffee makers with an open heating source, George Foreman-type grills, grills of any kind, extra microwaves and refrigerators, and ice machines. Candles, incense, tiki torches, fireworks, flammable liquids, candle warmers and lava lamps. String lights are permitted but not in doorways, on the ceiling or blocking windows, and LED strips with sticky backing are prohibited. No more than 20% of any wall may be covered by tapestries, posters, decals or other coverings. Students may not hang their own curtains or window treatments. No self-built lofts, counters or bars. Also banned: personal air conditioners, routers, personal hotspots and Wi-Fi printers, waterbeds, e-scooters and e-bikes. Pets: fish in 10 gallons or less.
