What on-campus housing costs at Texas A&M

Heads up — this school breaks the usual rules

  • The beds are 36" x 77" — a size that exists almost nowhere else. Standard twin sheets (75") are too short; Twin XL (80") fits but sits loose. Twin XL mattresses are available by request only.
  • Three places use FULL 54" x 80" beds instead: White Creek Apartments, Gardens Apartments, and — the sneaky one — Hullabaloo Hall SINGLE rooms. Hullabaloo doubles and suites in the same building are 36" x 77".
  • Extension cords are banned outright, along with toasters, toaster ovens, sandwich makers, George Foreman grills, panini presses, Instant Pots and pressure cookers, and induction cooktops. Air fryers, crock pots and rice cookers are allowed.
  • Fridge max 4.4 cubic feet including the freezer; microwave max 700 watts. Many retail “dorm” microwaves exceed 700W.
  • Do not buy a loft kit or bed risers — every bed already lofts and third-party lofts are prohibited.

Buying the standard college checklist here will waste money — check your building first.

Bed size: 36" x 80" frames with 36" x 77" mattresses — not a standard twin and not a Twin XL. Twin XL is available by request only. White Creek Apartments, Gardens Apartments and Hullabaloo Hall single rooms use full 54" x 80" beds.

Who has to live on campus

No live-on requirement for any class year — Residence Life states plainly that freshmen are not required to live on campus, and assignment is first-come, first-served. Some scholarships require it, so check your award terms. Corps of Cadets members live in Corps housing as a condition of the Corps.

What the room already includes

A loftable bed frame, desk and chair, three-drawer dresser, bookshelves and a closet per resident, plus individually controlled air conditioning and blinds. The rate covers natural gas, cable, electricity, internet, recycling and free laundry — not coin-op. White Creek and Gardens are apartments with a full kitchen and in-unit laundry; traditional halls have community kitchens on select floors only.

Fridge & microwave rules

Bring your own for the halls — nothing is provided. Fridge capped at 4.4 cubic feet including the freezer, microwave at 700 watts, and both are checked at fire-safety inspection. A rental service exists but publishes no pricing. Skip it entirely in White Creek and Gardens, which already have full kitchens.

What you cannot bring

Window AC units, space heaters, ceiling fans, camping stoves, electric skillets, griddles, George Foreman and charcoal grills, panini presses, halogen torchiere lamps, hot oil popcorn poppers, induction appliances, pressure cookers and Instant Pots, and — in the halls only — hot plates, sandwich makers, toasters and toaster ovens. Extension cords are prohibited; surge protectors must plug straight into the wall. Also banned: candles and incense, all pets, non-university wireless routers, and any self-built or rented loft. Nothing flammable on ceilings or light fixtures.
